Herbert L. English, Jr. is currently the Dean of Student Equity and Support at Victor Valley College. Before Victor Valley College he served as the Director, Center Academic Achievement and Retention at Hood College in Frederick, MD. His community college experience includes Director of EOP&S/CARE and Coordinator of the award- winning Valley-Bound Commitment (First-Year Experience) program at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC). Herbert joined SBVC after 2 years at California State University San Bernardino as an Academic Advisor/ p-t faculty.
Herbert has also worked as a Social Worker for Riverside County Child Protective Services and Director of the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino. He loves working with young people and inspiring them to pursue a college education.
Herbert holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology from California State University San Bernardino; a Master’s of Arts degree in Education from the University of Redlands and is pursuing doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at California State University Fullerton. A proponent of youth development, community service and education, Herbert has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino and undergraduate advisor of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Eta Zeta (HZ) Chapter. Herbert also received the 2011 San Bernardino Black Culture Foundation Black Rose Award.
