The African American Educational Network and Development Organization (A2MEND) invite proposals for presentations and workshops for the 9th Annual African American Male Summit to be held at the Hilton LAX in Los Angeles, CA on March 3-4, 2016.
Proposals will be judged on their relevance to the strands, content, quality, applicability, and overall connection to issues affecting African American male students and how these strategies relate to the conference theme. All proposals should include clearly-stated Student/Participant Learning Outcomes addressing the salient information students/participants should leave the session with.
African American Male Students
Proposals will be centered on topics that are relevant to African American male students. Proposals should be student-focused and can either be educational or motivational in nature. Discussion-based and/or multimedia presentations are strongly encouraged. All proposals should include Student Learning Outcomes.
Student Support Services
Proposals will analyze the significance of student support services in the overall academic success of African American male students. Presentation proposals should examine promising practices and programs that target African American males as well as facilitate discussion on how student services can better engage and connect African American male students throughout their educational development. Emphasis will be placed on presenters that have developed successful programs for African American males at their school sites, colleges, and/or in the community. All proposals should include Student/Participant Learning Outcomes.
Proposals must relate to instructional strategies and practices that affect the educational outcomes and classroom experiences of African American males. Emphasis will be given to proposals that have implemented successful instructional strategies. All proposals should include Student/Participant Learning Outcomes.
Proposals must address salient issues affecting K-12 principals, college presidents, board members, and business leaders in their efforts to address the academic successful of African American males. All proposals should include Student/Participant Learning Outcomes.
1. Proposal must address one of the approved strands.
2. Proposal must include Student/Participant Learning Outcomes.
3. Proposal must be submitted on the A2MEND Proposal Submission Form.
4. Presentations must be limited to one 1 hour and 30 minutes.
5. Indicate which conference location you are requested to present.
6. Presentations can be submitted by mail or electronically.
7. Proposals must be postmarked by January 15, 2016.
Presenters should be prepared to present to an audience of 50-100 attendees. Please be prepared to provide sufficient handouts for your session. Written notification on the status of your proposal will be emailed to the lead presenter by January 22, 2016. Additionally, a list of the conference workshops, presenters, and speakers will be posted to the A2MEND website.
All presenters must register for the conference and pay registration fees, travel expenses, and any additional costs associated with their workshops. A2MEND will provide one podium, microphone, and screen for each workshop. The lead presenter is responsible for both securing all other audio-video equipment and all associated costs.
